OTHER VARIOUS COLLABORATIONS

GUTS CHANTE NOEL

(December 2005)

In a sense, it was very fulfilling to be part of a web site such as Guts of Darkness. The good general agreement among the reviewers from different horizons and point of views even drove us to imagine the unthinkable : to realize an album all together !

Intended as a joke for Christmas, this virtual EP offers one collective song - the first one - and five original and often delusional contributions by the most iconic reviewers.

FUNGUS IMPERATOR

(October 2007)

Constantin Papageorgiadis who was very supportive since the very beginning approach me back in 2007 because he believed i could perfectly fit the new psychedelic band he was building up with longtime companions Fabrice Fardelli (from Khamsin) and Pascal Parent (from the Bumpers).

I was even more surprised when i saw that the drumseat was already occupied ! He wanted me on keyboards. And i ended up singing too.

Fungus Imperator was such a great experience, our shows were trying more and more to emulate what Hawkwind did back in the seventies. When Pascal and i decided to quit the band one year later, Constantin and Fabrice did continue and even ended up by recording some tracks in the studio.

FRANCK BALESTRACCI

(February 2007)

Again, like many of my encounters with foreign musicians,

i got it touch with Franck's work because i really liked what he released on Belgium label Carbon7.

I found out a very friendly guy who showed as much interest in my music than i did with his own.

Surprisingly, he asked me to collaborate to one of the song he was working on after the release

of his third album, "Modified Reality" back in 2006.

I only had to add my voice upon the music Franck send to me. The few words chosen are my tribute to Philip K.Dick.  Even if i did my part of the job, somehow it never officially saw the light of day.

The Soft (Remixed) Machine Project 2
(May 2007)

I think it was soon after the release of "Multiply" ...

Unexpectedly, this time i was the one who was asked to cooperate in a musical project.

The concept was quite simple and amusing at best.

Some files were made available to the participating artists (a female voice, a downtempo beat, some arpeggios on guitar). The aim was to deconstruct and rebuild the main theme to hopefully achieve a personal and original result.

Most of all i saw it as a fair opportunity to practice further more the art of doing music.

This is my contribution.

JJDS

At the time, Jean-Jacques was already very active inside PaNoPTiCoN. I was working on "Deadend" when i asked him to play the only saxophone impossible parts i had in mind for a long time now. He did it perfectly.

I don't remember exactly how we managed to jam together in my studio for an hour long session. Jean-Jacques is a very positive guy, he always encouraged me to try to find a way to give the best of me.

This directionless recording is rough, almost Brötzmann like in a way, hence the illustration.

BILL BROVOLD

(April 2009)

On April 2009, i got the great privilege to invite guitarist Bill Brovold at my place. I'm a big fan of his work through Larval. We get to know each other by exchanging mails as i was deeply involved in music reviews at the time, for Traverses and Guts of Darkness mainly.

We even discussed the possibility of bringing over Larval in Belgium to play some gigs. I started then to try to book them, but shamelessly it seems it didn't raise any kind of interest whatsoever ...

Anyway, Bill finally stayed for two days. When he arrived, we did some sightseeing in Brussels, eat japanese, drink beer and eventually found the time to record some stuff in my studio.

We ended up with a 42 minutes jam with nothing spectacular from my point of view. Maybe one day i'll get back to it. Who knows ?
